A fallen tree log that is offset by the Denali fault near the transition to the Totschunda fault. View is to the north. The tree log had begun to degrade before the earthquake and was brittle enough to rotate and snap due to rupture. At its southern end, the log was approximately perpendicular to the fault trace. On the north side of the fault, a linear depression exists where the extension of the log used to lay prior to the event. During the event, the log began to rotate but encountered another tree resisting (in the south) and this caused the log to snap, leaving the north side of the log at an angle to where it used to lay and the south side of the log bent due to drag where it was not pinned down due to the living tree visible in the foreground. Orange flags mark the location the tree used to lay before the event. Shotgun for scale. The rupture zone at this location was 45m wide but most of the slip occurred across a zone 1.5m wide.
