Workshop on volcano and rift seismicity in East Africa funded by an SSA Community Grant

Open to all SSA members, this program supports the creation of new training, learning, and networking opportunities for seismologists. Suzan van der Lee (Northwestern University) and Emily Brodsky (University of California, Santa Cruz) used their 2024 Community Grant to create a workshop on volcano and rift seismicity in East Africa. They reported back that the grant helped them offer the experience to a group of graduate students who added “valuable contributions, diversity of approach, and might not otherwise have been included.”

The February 2025 application period covers meetings taking place from April 2025 through March 2026. Apply today!

Honoring pioneering seismologist Paul Andrew Spudich (1950-2019), SSA’s newest grant program supports scientific travel for student and early-career members focused on earthquake source physics or ground motion prediction.

Ji 8 ICEGE

Chunyang Ji, a postdoctoral scholar at North Carolina State University, received the grant to attend the 8th International Conference on Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering (8 ICEGE) in Osaka, Japan.
