The Statewide California Earthquake Center (SCEC) Internships engage undergraduate students in cutting-edge earthquake science. SCEC Interns develop essential skills in research and data analysis, explore STEM careers, and gain valuable experience in the scientific process. Develop skills in data analysis, problem-solving, and system-thinking and join our diverse community of experts from over 90 institutions!
Undergraduate students interested in earthquake science have the opportunity to apply for two internship programs:
The Supported Opportunities for Undergraduates and Researchers to Collaborate on Earthquake Science (SOURCES) program offers students nationwide the opportunity to conduct impactful earthquake science research through remote mentorship with leading experts and provides an accessible pathway to geoscience and for students to build connections with peers and experts.
The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program pairs students with top researchers for a hands-on journey into the world of geoscience. Interns dive into real projects like seismic modeling and earthquake engineering, and gain skills in labs and field sites across the nation.
Our SCEC Internships include:
- Flexible Mentorship Options through remote mentorship or in-person at a researcher’s institution.
- Financial Support of $700 a week for 8 –10 weeks, plus additional funding for research needs.
