Information sheet for composite seismic source NLCS004

Name

Veldhoven fault.

Description

Composite source NLCS004 corresponds to the WNW-striking Veldhoven fault, which links BECS002 with the Rijen fault (NLCS005), thus accommodating a ~15 km wide left step (Figure S1, Figure S2). Its strike diverges more than 30° from that of adjacent faults. This fault appears to have a similar offset as BECS002, but little else is known.

Paleoseismic trenches

None

Vertical displacement data

The vertical displacement rate of NLCS004 can be estimated from a depth map of the base Quaternary horizon in Worum et al. (2004), which shows a vertical offset of ~100 m. Assuming an age of 2.58 Ma, the long-term vertical displacement rate is ~0.04 mm/yr.

Table S8. Compilation of data concerning vertical deformation rates of seismic source NLCS004.
ID Fault section Offset (m) Time period Deformation rate (mm/yr) Reference
40 Displacement of base Quaternary ~100 Since 2.58 Ma 0.039 Based on data from Worum et al. (2004)
